Summer 14/15 Swimwear Trends

In Australia, summer is right around the corner, and what better way for us to celebrate than to share the swimwear trends of the upcoming season. Each year new styles emerge and old ones are recycled. We all love the classics, but it’s great to see the new and exciting trends on the market and decide whether or not we’re daring enough to give them a try. This year, beaches and pools are set to be filled with more stylish and unique bikini sets than ever before. So without further ado, here’s our take on what’s hot in swimwear for SS14/15.

Sport luxe:
With neoprene and mesh making statements on runways this year, it was just a matter of time before swimwear began to pick up the sporty trend. Sporty bikinis aren’t just fashionable – they’re functional too – which is why we love them! They also suit almost every body type due to the range of different cuts, colours and materials, all of which sit under the sport luxe umbrella. Look for zips, contrasting colours, mesh, neoprene and racer necks to emulate the style.

Racer neck line:
Bikini tops with racer neck lines are a huge trend this season, and they aren’t just limited to the sport luxe trend. Tropical prints and bold statements have also been popular pairings with the racer neck style. Anyone can wear this style and look great, but athletic “straight” body types are the best fit. If you’re sick of the same old, typical styles of swimwear, test out a racer neck line for a unique style worn by the boldest of beach goers.

Cut-outs:
Cut-outs are appearing on all types of swimwear this year – from high waisted bottoms, to one pieces and bikini tops. Showing unexpected skin is in! Luckily, all body types can suit swimwear with cut-outs. The key is to look for styles that hide your least favourite body bits and expose your favourites. It’s also smart to create a balance – if you’re going to wear high waisted bottoms with cut-outs along the sides, opt for a simple bikini top to even out the look.

Wrap around tops:
Wrap around bikini tops are emerging this season, and have been particularly popular with women who need a little extra support in the bust. If you’re looking for a classic bikini with a unique twist – a wrap around is for you! They look best with simple block colours and are great at emphasising gorgeous curves on ladies with bigger busts and small waists (inverted triangle body shape). In fact, ASOS is currently selling a whole range of wrap around bikinis, and they’re only available to women with cup sizes DD to G. If you want support and style, we recommend checking out this trend!

Bralettes:
Thanks to brands like Triangl Swimwear, Summer 13/14 saw bralettes gaining momentum, and now mainstream swimwear trends are following suit. Offering a nice level coverage and support (suited to a small-medium bust size), bralette bikini styles are perfect for those looking to relax in comfort whilst they enjoy the summer sun.

Prints:
As always, jungle and tropical themes remain popular. Leopard prints, leafy prints and florals are everywhere! Suited to almost any style of bikini, prints are great for making a statement or drawing attention away from your least favourite body parts. If you have a large bust, opt for a plain coloured top with a print bottom to balance out your figure – and vice versa if you have a smaller upper half (triangle body shape). Pick an old favourite or find a new one using our swimwear design tool, and add it to your favourite trendy bikini.

With the amount of unique swimwear styles gracing runways this season, it’s easy to find a look that suits your body whilst remaining stylish and true to your tastes. We can’t wait to try out the trends of SS14/15 in the coming months!

Leave us a comment and let us know which style is your favourite. We’d love to hear what you think.
