Fashion weeks for 2013 have been and gone and we have seen everything from military to metallic, crochet to cut out and all that is in between. There are however, 5 trends that stand out across the globe which we have selected to inspire your own custom creation!
The Retro– The 1950’s style has been gaining momentum for a few of seasons now, but 2013 has seen the high waisted pant and bustiere top march down the runway of every major designer. This style is perfect if your looking to conceal a tummy that is not quite ready for summer or accentuate your bust or curves. Team a 1950’s top with a high waisted or retro bottom for classic pin up girl perfection, or add frills and florals for something feminine and flirty.
Inspiration: vintage, retro, pin up girl, Wildfox Swim, Kooey.
Editor’s Pick: Classic1950’s, with a high waist bottom, with ruched centre panel. Team this back with your nautical stripes, navy and white block colours or flirt it up with our purple and yellow watercolour print.
Florals – it’s all about the flower power… BABY! From elegant and dainty to bold vibrant, there have never been so many options for floral. This season is trending towards hues of pinks, reds, oranges, yellows and soft blues.
Inspiration: Pucci, BCBG Max Azaria, Kooey, L*Space
Editor’s Pick: Try this trend of florals with a basic bandeau with centre ring, a tiered frill triangle or be adventurous and go all out with a one piece.
Bandeaus – A god send for the small busted woman, the bandeau is back, sleeker, more structured and living it large on the runway! This staple style has been around every season but this year it’s back and reinvented with flattering frills.
Inspiration: Bridget Bardot
Editor’s pick: Pair a twist bandeau with a retro bottom in a warm metallic for a chic interpretation of a 70’s staple.
80’s POP! – Vibrant fluorescent colours pitted against each other are the key to this look, paired this season with a sporty, minimalist style that gives the 80’s a fresh new twist! Perfect for accentuating the sleek lines of an athletic figure or just as flattering for a fuller figure. This trend is perfect on a one piece swimsuit or tankini. To channel the likes of Darryl Hannah, Margeaux Hemingway or Christie Turlington try a moulded cup or twist bandeau, and a cheeky boy leg
Inspiration: Emilo Pucci,
Editor’s pick: A Halter one piece or moulded cup one piece in fluro green and yellow, with black piping.
Feminine Frills – Nothing says cheeky, playful and feminine like frills, and this year they have appeared EVERYWHERE! On the fronts and backs of tops, bottoms, tankinis and one pieces. This is a great way to accentuate those parts that may need little help getting a some attention. Small bust add a ruffle across the top. Small or flat bottom? A ruffle around the waist helps put a little more ‘junk in the trunk’
Inspiration: Luli Fama, Aquarella.
Editor’s pick: Choose from a basic bandeau one piece with single frill across the top or a bandeau with frill and basic brief with frill… Cute!
